Do These Pants Make Me Look Fat?
The clothing for New York Fashion Week Fall 2009 has ranged from the Eighties inspired to the Goth-like, but most were beautiful overall. My only pet peeve is the equestrian inspired pants that add volume to a woman’s hips. They may have a place on the runway during Fashion Week, but not in the real world.
Several designers tackled this equestrian inspired look, but only a few executed it with a flattering result. I would be less offended if the pants were accompanied by ‘Wear Instructions’, ‘should be worn by twenty-something rocker chic girls, 5’10″ and over’. Oh, there should be a warning label for the rest of us.
I am usually better mannered, but those pants have crossed the line. The silhouette only flatters a few, if any. Never have I witnessed a woman utter the words, ‘I want something to make my hips appear wider’.
This is not an attempt to make women more self-conscious about their body image; I am a firm believer that you must love yourself for who and what you are, no matter what. Unfortunately, the same does not hold true for those pants.
For centuries women all over the world have been asking the age old question, ‘do these pants make me look fat?’ Now I can finally answer that question. Yes. Yes they do.
