Power Of The Consumer

The world is interdependent, and the economic crisis has only highlighted this fact.  The fashion capitals, New York, London, Milan and Paris are each facing challenges from the downturn.

The consumer is the heroine in this story and will determine ‘The New Beginning’.  An ending is not an option.  The economy and the industry are relying on the consumer, despite the bail-out from the government.

A powerful and discriminating consumer has emerged.  One guide to the shopper is to pay attention to the charitable and the philanthropic acts of individuals and businesses.  Reward them with your patronage.

The fashion industry contributes regularly to society.  Many people benefit from the goodwill of fashion houses and retailers, and the consumer can take note.

His First Collection…

Peter Dundas’ first collection for Pucci was a departure from his predecessor’s unapologetic use of color.  Matthew Williamson used vibrant colors and prints during his tenure at Pucci.  Dundas on the other hand, used more subdued colors this season at Milan Fashion Week.

The first look was a short muted print dress with a voluminous fur-lined jacket and thigh-high suede boots. It was a preview of what else would come down the runway.

The looks were accessible and a little rocker chic.  He showed dresses both long and short as well as separates.  The dresses were fitted and body-conscious, and the separates were comfortable and relaxed.

The Pucci woman is still young, bold, confident and sexy.  She will be wearing muted prints, black, tan, and pops of hot pink and royal blue in the fall.

Peter Dundas’ fall 2009 collection for Pucci was a hit, and can be view at New York Magazine.  It goes to show that sometimes the first time can be the charm.

Think Warm Thoughts

New York City has been hit with nearly 9 inches of snow and 22 degree weather in the month of March.  It’s time for a getaway.  Let us think warm thoughts.

Imagine yourself on a beach with white sand and blue-green water.  The sand caresses your toes with each step.  The heat from the sun is so intense.  Do you need help applying your sunscreen?  Hold on.  I’m back, had to get my sunglasses.  The glare from the sun is blinding as well.

Your only care is whether you’ll have dinner at the resort or venture into town to have dinner with the locals.  Remember to stop by the boutique to pick up your bikini.  That’s the uniform of choice here in paradise.

Meet you for lunch in ten minutes.  Is that your phone ringing?  If reality calls, I’m not in.
