Vogue’s October Cover: Victoria Beckham

digital-camera-035

It appears that Victoria Beckham will be on the cover of Vogue for the month of October.  It’s still in the rumor phase, but worth a mention.  She’s graced the covers of British, Russian and Indian Vogue, but American Vogue has eluded her, until now that is.  Posh has made the cover with her fellow Spice Girls over a decade ago, but this time she’s going solo.  I can’t wait to see if she’ll be wearing her own designs. Redux for Givenchy

We have selected Givenchy’s new capsule collection to be created by Riccardo Tisci for our Rollcall list this week.  First he wowed us with his fall 2009 couture collection, and now he is designing his new capsule collection, Redux.  Redux is expected in stores by October, and will show twice a year.  Tisci’s fall 2009 couture collection was edgy, regal and ethnic; will Redux follow a similar ‘pattern’?  Here is a look back at the couture collection, and get a hint of what may be in store for you this fall.

Stylist on the Streets of NYC

It’s always good to shake things up a bit, and I couldn’t resist posting this video of a stylist on the streets of New York City.  He’s worked with Beyonce, Mya, Lil’ Kim among others.  Devohn describes his personal style as being ‘vintage couture futuristic.’  His words to live by, “you have to be a diamond in this world.”  The great thing about this city is the freedom it allows you to be an individual, and you will get noticed.  Take a look at the video, and you will see why I selected it.

Vera Wang has launched her personalized wedding stationery, Vera Wang on Weddings.  It’s a collection of wedding invitations that brings together timeless classic designs with a modern twist.  The stationery is right in line with Vera Wang’s bridal and fashion collections.  You can’t miss because you have a choice of various designs; the style featured above is Alencon Lace.  So go ahead, plan your big day, and make Vera Wang on Weddings a part of it.  The only concern, you might be in the market for a different set of stationery to make another announcement soon after.  That however, would be a welcomed predicament.

Summer Weekend Dreams

It was a hot one today.  We asked for it, and we received temperatures in the upper eighties.  The day was perfect for the beach; unfortunately many of us were far away from the beach.  Am I the only one looking forward to the weekend?  Sure it’s only Monday, but it’s good to get an early start.  I’ll have to stick close to home, but it doesn’t mean I won’t be dreaming of being elsewhere.  Hopefully swimsuits will be the uniform of choice, and the Ralph Lauren red bikini is a good one.

Model Pregnancy Trend

Have you noticed that the modeling industry is in the midst of a pregnancy surge?  The pregnancy trend started with Heidi Klum and Adriana Lima, and then moved on to Gisele Bundchen and Karolina Kurkova.  Now the pregnancy bug has bitten another model, 19 year old Jourdan Dunn.  It must be something in the water over in the model-hood.  These babies are already genetically blessed, and will be stunning.  Maybe a couple will follow in mommy’s footsteps.  There could be numerous visits to Bellini Baby Furniture in the near future to decorate the nurseries of these bundles of joy.

Swimwear to Heat Up the Summer

So we’ve eaten the salads, done the cardio and crunches for summer, and wouldn’t you know it, we’ve been inundated with rain and temperatures averaging in the 70′s here in New York.  I’m about ready to migrate to warmer weather.  Maybe Miami or California, while I contemplate my next move, check out the video of Cia.Maritima by swimwear designer Benny Rosset at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim in Miami.  Hopefully it will remind you of how summer is supposed to be.  The collection is perfect for summer vacations on the beach, and that’s why we’ve named it to our Rollcall list.  Watch with caution though, the swimsuits are red hot and sexy.

Donatella Versace On the Eighties

Donatella Versace is in New York City for a week, and she sat down for an interview with New York Magazine in her Manhattan store.  She had attended the launch of her new charity, Art Unites, at the Whitney Museum on the prior evening.  Art Unites provides children in need with art supplies to create their own masterpieces.  The fashion community is rooted in charity and philanthropy, and this is just another shining example.  Donatella reveals in her interview that Versace is returning to its roots, the eighties.  Those were the years of Gianni Versace, and the rise of the Italian fashion house.  The eighties were years of excess, daring and in your face fashion say the designer; it’s all about updating and modernizing the looks.  Take a look at the video.

Top Five Twitter Fashion Sites

There are so many great Twitter fashion sites out there and we have picked our top five.  They are fun, light-hearted, and all are responsive to their followers.  That is what the Twitter community is all about.  Sure it’s also about marketing, branding and getting your name out there.  The more you know what the consumer wants, the better you are able to serve them.  My favorite sites are:

Twitter is a great way to communicate with friends as well, but it does get tricky when friends fail to check their Twitter messages on a daily basis.  What do you do email them and tell them to check Twitter?  Talk about defeating the purpose of sending them a tweet in the first place.  Now I was once guilty of the same thing, but I am reformed.  I now check my Twitter account once or twice, okay, five times a day, and I can stop anytime I want.  Wow, maybe I’m the one with the problem.  Anyway, check out the Twitter fashion sites above, you’ll be glad you did.

New York Fashion Week is Near

New York Fashion Week is just around the corner, September 10 - 17, 2009.  The online registration for press started today.  There is no place like New York in the fall, and fashion week only adds to this incredible city.  It should be an extra special event this season because it’s the last time fashion week will be held at the Bryant Park tent.  The tent will be missed because it is centrally located in midtown.   I was never exactly clear on why some shows were held at other downtown venues; was it a lack of space or cost issue?  Hopefully Lincoln Center can accommodate all who wish to show in fashion week’s new home.  Last season we named Donna Karan the winner of our Showdown because of all the fabulous accessories, the belts and necklaces really added sophistication to the collection.  Take another look at some of the fall 2009 shows, and hopefully they will leave you wanting more in September.
