Alice Temperley of Temperley London- Part II

Temperley London Spring 2010

Temperley London Spring 2010

On Friday we talked about the new lower-priced line for Temperley London, well consider this to be part II on Temperley.  We could not resist bringing you a short interview with Alice Temperley from Net-A-Porter.com.  First, it gives us a look at the original Temperley line, and thus a glimpse of what the new line may look like.  Second, it is always good to hear from the designer.  I love learning about where they get their inspiration, and it’s always interesting to hear them speak about the woman who wears their clothes.  The mini interview does not cover the diffusion line, but it does give us a little insight into the designer.  Check out the video, and then begin your countdown to the launch of the diffusion line  for spring 2010.

Temperley London’s New Lower-Priced Line

Temperley London has joined the ranks of designers who’ve realized the economic potential in dressing the masses.  To you Temperley, I say welcome.  They will be launching a new diffusion line for spring 2010.  The prices will start at about $57, that’s reason for a celebration.  The new line isn’t Temperley’s first entrance into the mass market arena, they designed a collection for Target in 2007.  If the diffusion line is anything like the Target collaboration, the pieces will walk out the stores.  Everyone wins with this new line, Temperley London gets increased name recognition and the masses get to wear pieces from a high-end designer.  Some, however, may view it as a dilution of the brand.  In the end, only the profits made from this new venture will tell. The Olsens and ‘The Row’

The Olsens’ fashion label The Row is proving to be a major hit, and surprisingly their client base tend to be  a little older.  They also receive great reviews from a notable fashion crowd, many of whom are raving about the schoolboy blazer and peacoat.  The compliments almost reach a purr as they talk about the leather leggings (those must be some pair of leggings).  Ashley and Mary Kate’s line tend to be at a price point of $1,000 or higher, but judging from the reviews, it may be worth it.  The Row is two years old and it appears to be doing very well, so we have named it to our Rollcall list this week.  The Olsens have the midas touch. [The Cut]

Countdown to Fashion’s Night Out: Video

The excitement over New York Fashion Week is just about to percolate, and the buzz is nearing a fevered pitch over Fashion’s Night Out on September 10th.  Fashion’s Night Out is Anna Wintour’s baby, and she working her magic.  She’s even managed to conjure up this PSA spot featuring the who’s who of the New York fashion industry.  It includes Donna Karan, Vera Wang, Diane Von Furstenberg, Oscar de la Renta, Diddy, Isaac Mizrahi and Anna Wintour herself.  The PSA is about 30 seconds, and it is well worth watching.  Sarah Jessica Parker is also featured, as well as other prominent designers and models.  You’ll get a glimpse at the T-shirts that Ms. Wintour will be signing in Queens, Brooklyn, and Manhattan on September 10th.

‘Gilt’ for a Day

Alexandra Wilkis Wilson, founder of the Gilt Groupe and chief merchandising officer, may have one of the most desirable jobs in fashion.  She travels the world in search of great fashion, and cultivates relationships with designers.  Her main objective, to acquire samples from said designers to sell on her private online website by invitation only.  The website is less than two years old, but is already a success.  They sell fabulous items at affordable prices, what could be better?  Designers like Carolina Herrera, Marc Jacobs, Matthew Williamson and many more have been featured on gilt.com.  The video highlights a day in the life of the fashion executive, and her schedule is full.

Designer Rachel Roy Up-Close

Designer Rachel Roy should be an inspiration to women, entrepreneurs and mothers.  I selected this video because  it gives us a glimpse into her busy life as a designer and mother.  Ms. Roy speaks of the importance of a balanced life, “if i’m not fulfilling this [time spent caring for children] in my personal life, then work also suffers.” I recently learned how accurate this statement is, being out of balance in your personal life, can spell trouble for your professional life as well.  The busy mother of two started out as an intern, and is now a successful American designer with a loyal celebrity following.  It will be great to see her collection during New York Fashion Week Spring 2010.

Leather Trend for Fall

There’s nothing sexier than leather, namely a pair of black leather pants.  I have a pair of black leather pants on my list for fall, Derek Lam’s leggings would do nicely.  The YSL leather dress with cap sleeves in the video is a stand out, it manages to be sexy and demure at the same time.  Angelina Jolie made a splash at the premiere of Brad Pitt’s movie Inglorious Basterds in a Michael Kors leather dress.  You can say that she brought the trend to a fevered pitch.  There are ways to dress it up or down, but you’ll probably be better off dressing it down this season.  Of course you can never go wrong with a great leather jacket for fall.  Check out the video for good ideas.

Anna Sui for Target

Anna Sui’s line for Target has made our  Rollcall list this week.  It will be in stores on September 13th, but there will be a special pop-up shop on Fashion’s Night Out.  Fashion’s Night Out is on September 10th to coincide with the start of New York Fashion Week.  Anna Sui’s line is influenced by the CW drama Gossip Girl, and you can bet it will be a hit among tweens and teens returning to school.  The great thing about the line is that it has a separate collection of items for each young lady on the show, Serena, Blair, Jenny and Vanessa.  Click here for a look at the collection.

Victoria’s Secret: Christian Siriano Make-up

Project Runway returns to the airwaves this week, so it seems fitting to highlight Christian Siriano’s make-up line at Victoria’s Secret.  Siriano is the winner of season 4 on the reality hit.  He worked as a make-up artist when he first moved to New York, and now he is a designer.  Not bad, a make-up artist and a fashion designer.  It obviously pays to be versatile in this economy.  The lip glosses are very tempting; I’m more of a lip gloss and mascara kind of girl, but he has bronzers, eye shadows, eyeliners and the like.  Now we can get our push-up bras and Christian Siriano’s lip gloss in one shot.  It works for me.

Backstage Look at New York Fashion Week

Here is a backstage look at the work that goes into putting a show together at New York Fashion Week Fall 2009.  You’ll see how the designers, hair stylists and make up artists collaborate to create a cohesive theme.  The real action takes place backstage, that’s where you get to see the true personality of the individual.  In my experience, the designers are usually thoughtful and gracious, even if a little anxious about the show.  New York Fashion Week Spring 2010 is from September 10th to 17th, less than a month away.  I’m excited to see what’s new on the horizon next spring in terms of color, silhouette and texture.  Let’s not forget that September 10th is Fashion’s Night Out where stores will remain open until 11:00pm hosting events in all five boroughs.  Anna Wintour will be in Queens, in celebration of Fashion’s Night Out, signing T-shirts.  There’s plenty in store for us this season, just take a look back at last season’s moments.
