Do you still make New Year’s resolutions, or have you resolved to make no resolution? We need not wait for one special day to make changes. Besides, that’s just way too much pressure for me. Celebrities make resolutions each year just like many of us. They probably break them just as often. Take a look at the 2010 resolve of Adrian Grenier, Nanette Lepore, Kristen Chenoweth, Nikki Blonsky, Nicole Trunfio, and Mark Sailling and Corey Monteith from Glee. Happy New Year!
The year 2009 is drawing to a close, and we are about to head into a new year. Before we get into 2010, let’s look back at a few of the highlights on Fashion Rollcall in 2009. It seems fitting to take a look back at some of the images that excited us most about style and fashion.
Michelle Obama caused a splash during her overseas visit to Britian. She gave emerging designer Junya Watanabe quite a boost when she donned the designer’s cardigan on the world stage. Her Style Showdown
Michelle Obama offered great dating advice in Glamour magazine. The First Lady made our list a few times because of the effect she’s had on the fashion industry during tough economic times. She has been a great support to many young designers and several well- established ones, and we recognize her efforts. Michelle Obama Lands ‘Glamour’ Cover
Versace is hoping you will flip for their new ad campaign starring model Georgia May Jagger. She is the new face of Versace, and the young daughter of Jerry Hall and Mick Jagger may be just what the label ordered. The Spring 2010 ad displays an upside-down Georgia with her bag draped over her in what appears to be an unmade bed. Her hair and make up are flawless, in total, she is very polished. Even so, there is definitely a youthful and edgy vibe to this campaign. It’s not even overtly sexy. Perhaps Donatella Versace is targeting a younger demographic.
Model Natasha Poly is the covergirl for Russian Vogue’s January issue. Merely looking at the cover will elicit a wow! The word bombshell also comes to mind. Natasha is so Marilyn Monroe-esque in this shot. The photo is reminiscent of Marilyn Monroes’s infamous happy birthday rendition to President John F. Kennedy. She appears to be channeling Marilyn from the beautiful blonde tresses down to the sparkly gown Monroe had to be sown into prior to going on stage. Poly definitely has the sexy and sultry look down to a science. If this cover is indicative of future covers in 2010, we have a very fashionable year ahead.
We first fell in love with the ladies of Sex and the City because of their love affair with New York City and high-end fashion. Their move to the big screen has only intensified that love; they continue their love affair with Louboutin, YSL, Dior, Halston and Chanel in Sex and the City 2. We’ve only gotten a glimpse of what’s in store from the movie trailer so far, and we are already coveting the wardrobe. The label breakdown comes from Madison Avenue Spy:
Opening clip Carrie in limited edition Mykita & Bernhard Willhelm sunglasses ($525 @ Patricia Field.)
Carrie’s white dress- Halston; necklace- Solange Azagury-Partridge- about $200k. shoes- Louboutin; clutch- Chanel (Look from movie poster shown on the left).
Clip in front of Bergdorf Goodman- Samantha’s VBH bag ($1300); black Ray Bans. Miranda- YSL Tribute heels. Charlotte- all pink Dior (including the bag); except shoes- Louboutin.
Louis Vuitton enlisted model Lara Stone for its Spring/Summer 2010 ad campaign, she replaces Madonna from the previous campaign. The luxury brand selected the model of the moment mainly because of her broad appeal. They likely selected Madonna for their Spring/Summer 2009 ad campaign because of the singer/actress’ iconic pop-culture status. Of course image is everything, and there is no denying that both Lara Stone and Madonna look the part. They symbolize luxury, and if you want to have that same effect, you will have to step it up a notch, says an MIT study. Researchers concluded that your designer handbag would likely pass the visual authentication test if your personal appearance says that you have money. Wearing luxury apparel and/or being in attendance at certain social functions would lead others to believe your bag was authentic. So the next time you venture out the house with your bag, will you take a second and third look at your attire because people are judging? Or will you dare to make your own rules, and break them at your whim? I don’t know about you, but the latter sounds far more intriguing. Besides, isn’t that why Louis Vuitton selected Madonna and now Lara Stone as the face of Louis Vuitton in the first place. Fearlessness is sexy and it sells.
If you’ve had enough of the snow storms and the cold weather, let the Sex and the City 2 movie trailer warm your heart. Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon are back and they’re as fabulous as ever. The movie opens on May 28, 2010, so save the date in your Blackberry or iPhone. Watch the trailer and you will immediately begin the countdown to opening day.
Tights are definitely on trend this season, and no one loves them more than Sarah Jessica Parker. The actress wore a pair of Chanel striped tights from the spring 2010 collection on The Today Show last week while doing press for Did You Hear About theMorgans. The edgy tights balanced her girly crocheted Chanel look; a cross between bondage and sweet. In October of 2008 Ms. Parker selected a pair of two-toned Chanel tights with a one-shoulder dress and cardigan for the Chanel Mobile Art event. These tights looked more like a combination of biker shorts and stockings, and placed an exclamation point on a well-proportioned outfit. Both looks were fun, daring and unconventional. You should expect to see these pattern and textured tights everywhere this season and the next.
London Fashion Week is enjoying a major resurgence. British designers are returning to London to show their collections again; they are breaking the pattern of showing in New York, Milan or Paris. The city’s fashion week revival is long overdue because of its wealth of emerging and innovative talent. Burberry Prorsum, Matthew Williamson, Pringle of Scotland, Jonathan Saunders and Antonio Berardi all returned for spring 2010, and will make an encore appearance for fall 2010. Fashion Week is from February 19 – 24, 2010 and the excitement can hardly be contained. “The British Fashion Council is delighted that all five have confirmed they will show in London this February and we look forward to working with them to attract leading media and buyers to London Fashion Week.” The excitement is not limited to the UK, the fashion industry as a whole rejoices.
