Anna Wintour Covers the WSJ in Prada

Image via Racked

Anna Wintour covers the April 2011 issue of the Wall Street Journal in Prada.  We can see the humor in that selection.  This is a different role for the Editor-in-Chief of Vogue, who is usually behind the scenes calling the shots.  Famed fashion photographer Mario Testino conducted the shoot.  She is featured in an aticle aptly titled, “The Business of Being Anna.”

Fashion’s Night Out 2010: The Fashion Show

Models, designers, editors and fashionista’s came out this evening to support Fashion’s Night Out’s fashion show.  The event showcased over 150 models in Fall 2010 looks from many designers, and these pieces are in stores now.  Some of the biggest names in the modeling industry graced the seemingly intricate catwalk.  The show was streamed live for all to see and to enjoy the awe of one of the largest fashion shows ever.  Andre Leon Talley was one of our hosts for the evening, and he was a delight.  It was a sight to see the models rock the runway with such poise and precision, all 150 of them.  This event started as the brainchild of Anna Wintour and Vogue last year, and has grown exponentially in just one year.  The making of FNO will be aired on CBS on September 14th, and it is sure to include the evening’s fashion show, as well as the worldwide shopping extravaganza on Friday, September 10th.  Don’t forget that these events help to support a worthy cause;  a portion of the proceeds goes to the New York City AIDS Fund.  We can hardly wait until Friday for Fashion’s Night Out’s second night out.  Happy shopping!!!

Intern With Anna Wintour for $13,000 and Versace for $20,000?

Anna Wintour auctioned a  week at Vogue with the chance to meet with her, and the top bid has reached $13,000.  The bid could go higher with only two days left in the auction.  Now Donatella Versace has gotten into the action, and offered a semester at Versace’s New York office.  Her donation is expected to go for $20,000.   The lucky intern at Versace also gets the opportunity to attend both the Versace and Versus fashion shows in Milan, and meet Donatella Versace backstage.  Have internships within the fashion industry become more coveted, or is it the access these donations offer?  Having face time these titans could be a once in a lifetime opportunity.  Both Donatella and Anna should serve as examples to us all about giving back.  They’ve donated their time and a piece of the mystique surrounding them.  Charity Buzz is the vehicle for these acts of kindness, and the proceeds go to the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights.

Fashion’s Night Out 2010 to Host A Runway Show With Over 200 Models

Fashion’s Night Out is shaping up to be more extravagant than anyone originally anticipated.  It was recently announced that FNO will host the largest fashion show at Lincoln Center on September 7th.  The show will have over 200 of the fiercest models to walk the runway.  That means we will likely see the original supermodels walk alongside the models of the moment.  Will we see a model walk-off?  Think Christy Turlington, Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford and Linda Evangelista walking amongst Raquel Zimmermann, Karlie Kloss, Daria Werbowy and Chanel Iman that’s worth the price of admission.  Well 1500 guests will be privy to this model showdown, and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the New York City AIDS Fund.  All the trends for fall will be represented on stage, and we’ll get to see the hottest looks from some of our favorite designers.  You can get tickets at the Lincoln Center box office this summer.

Auction: Work At Vogue For A Week

Many have wondered what it would be like to walk the famed halls of Vogue magazine.  Well one lucky person will find out.  Anna Wintour is auctioning the opportunity to spend one week at the fashion bible for charity.  Bidding starts at $1,000, but it’s likely to go for much more.  They had us at authorized visits to their offices, and so we have named Vogue and Anna Wintour to our Rollcall list this week.  The best part of this whole experience is the winner gets to meet Anna herself.  That would make it all worth while, but I’m sure the accessories closet would be a very close second.  Now I doubt it would be anything like The Devil Wears Prada, but I would suggest the winner wears stylish, but comfortable shoes because there might be a few coffee runs on this gig. Anna Wintour Plans to Show More Curves on the Pages of Vogue

Louis Vuitton Fall 2010

It appears the increase of curvey models in magazines and on the runway may become a more dominant trend than was first realized.  A few days ago Vogue’s Editor-in-Chief, Anna Wintour, designer Michael Kors and model Natalia Vodianova were panelists at a forum regarding the overall health of models.  Of course the topic of eating disorders was a central theme.  Major news that will affect the fashion industry came from that event.  One is the promise by Ms. Wintour that Vogue will use models of various sizes on its pages.  That is big news indeed because her proactive stance on depicting positive body images in the fashion bible can have a rippling effect on the industry.  The other big news is Michael Kors’ announcement that he will no longer use models under the age 16.  He also intends to call on his peers to do the same.  Change has definitely come to this industry, and I say it’s about time.  Many young girls grow up emulating the girls they see in magazines, and seeing images of models of various body sizes will have a profound impact.  It sends a message that our society is ready to celebrate the beauty of real women.  Let’s face it, the industry benefits when girls and women feel better about themselves.  Should you doubt that last statement, remind me of the last time you went shopping while you were feeling self-conscious about your own body image.  If you can’t remember it’s because it doesn’t happen very often.  In the end, everyone benefits from a positive body image in this industry, and the industry will see it reflected in their bottom-line.

Met Gala 2010: Oprah, Patrick, and Anna Reign

The co-chairs of the Met Gala Spring 2010 are Oprah Winfrey and Patrick Robinson of the Gap.  The Costume Institue’s next exhibit will be “American Woman: Fashioning a National Identity”.  Okay, the topic is a little heavier than the last exhibit, “Model as Muse”, but I’m sure it will just as fashionable.  Some of the pieces for the exhibit will come from the Brooklyn Museum Costume Collection, as well as pieces designed by Gabrielle (Coco) Chanel, Jeanne Lanvin, Elsa Schiaparelli, Madeleine Voinnet, just to name a few.  The collection will be on display at the Costume Institute from May 5th through August 15th.  I don’t know about you, but I am looking forward to viewing this exhibit.

The excitement over New York Fashion Week is just about to percolate, and the buzz is nearing a fevered pitch over Fashion’s Night Out on September 10th.  Fashion’s Night Out is Anna Wintour’s baby, and she working her magic.  She’s even managed to conjure up this PSA spot featuring the who’s who of the New York fashion industry.  It includes Donna Karan, Vera Wang, Diane Von Furstenberg, Oscar de la Renta, Diddy, Isaac Mizrahi and Anna Wintour herself.  The PSA is about 30 seconds, and it is well worth watching.  Sarah Jessica Parker is also featured, as well as other prominent designers and models.  You’ll get a glimpse at the T-shirts that Ms. Wintour will be signing in Queens, Brooklyn, and Manhattan on September 10th.
