Zoe Saldana: Behind the Scenes of Calvin Klein’s Envy Ad

Actress Zoe Saldana gives us a behind the scenes look at her Calvin Klein Envy shoot.  The actress talks about staying in shape and being mentally fit, that’s apparently her secret to looking so fabulous on the red carpet.  She also talks about feeling sexy and being comfortable in her skin, so comfortable that she would appear in her underwear.  Who wouldn’t when the camera is like your best friend forever?

Zoe Saldana for Calvin Klein’s Envy

Zoe Saldana is sexy, yet slightly demure in her new Calvin Klein ad campaign.  The actress strikes a relaxed pose in her underwear ad for the Envy line.   Trust that the fashion house would design underwear that’s sleek instead of fussy; that’s keeping in line with their ready-to-wear aesthetic.  Saldana was the right choice for this line, the name says it all.  You can bet women all over the world would love to look like that in their underclothing.  Though it might be cliche, it appears nothing can come between her and her Calvins.

Lara Stone for Calvin Klein’s Fall 2010 Ad

Lara Stone is the new face of Calvin Klein’s fall 2010 ad campaign.  We are only halfway through 2010 and the model is already having a great year.  After getting married last month, she heads the campaign for the label that ushered in the waif look in the 90′s when they signed Kate Moss.  “I conceived my fall 2010 collection with a self-aware and assured woman in mind. For me, Lara was the perfect choice for the new campaign because she is a woman who epitomizes confidence and sensuality,” says the house’s creative director Francisco Costa.  Stone has been the go-to model when it comes to the modern woman with curves.  Though the design house is not the leader in the curvy movement, this shift is noteworthy because Lara is now the face of Calvin Klein Collection, ck Calvin Klein and Calvin Klein Jeans.  The campaign was shot by photographers Mert and Marcus.

The Met Gala is practically a fashion show on the red carpet, and it did not disappoint last night.  The bold-named and the beautiful came out in large numbers last night.  Many were dressed and accompanied by some of the biggest names in fashion.  We compiled a list of the best dressed.  Let us know if you agree.

1. Sarah Jessica Parker is always at home on the red carpet.  The actress looked stunning in her Halston Heritage gown last night.  Her pleated gown maintained the design integrity of Halston while staying true to SJP’s personal style.  Her hair and accessories played the perfect supporting role to the dress.

2. Marion Cotillard went Hollywood glam in her Dior gown.  She sparkled like a star from head-to-toe.  The be-jeweled neckline and her hair in beautiful soft waves completed the look.

3. Zoe Saldana was sleek and sexy in her one-shoulder Calvin Klein gown.  The beaded black dress was stunningly simple while adorned with only a few accessories.  It proves that sometimes the understated makes just right statement.

4. Anne Hathaway was Cinderella in her strapless Valentino gown.  Her diamond necklace went perfectly with the brilliant sequins surrounding the bodice and full skirt.  Hathaway was definitely the beautiful princess last night.

5. Jessica Alba channeled Old Hollywood with her hair, makeup and that gorgeous dress designed by Sophie Theallet for GAP.  Satin can be a very tricky fabric because it can make you appear larger, but Alba was trim and svelte last night.  That’s because of the expert draping of the designer and the actress’ figure.  Jessica Alba has donated her gown for auction and all proceeds will go to The Metropolitan Museum of Art in support of The Costume Institute Gala Benefit.

It appears the Internet is playing a starring role in New York Fashion Week.  Several of the top designers are live streaming their runway shows this year.  Among them are Marc Jacobs, Alexander Wang, Rodarte, Calvin Klein, Ports 1961 and Isaac Mizrahi.  The move towards live streaming the shows online has been a growing trend from previous seasons, and momentum is building.  Will this shift jeopardize the week set aside for the fashion industry to congregate under one tent?  That remains to be seen, but until then here’s a schedule of the shows to watch online:

Alexander Wang – February 13th @ 5:oopm EST – Showstudio.com

Calvin Klein – February 18th @ 3:00pm EST – calvinkleincollections.com

Isaac Mizrahi – February 18th @ 12:00pm EST

Marc Jacobs – February 15 @ 8:00pm EST – marcjacobs.com

Ports 1961- February 11th @ 3:00pm EST – vogue.com

Sweet Smell of Success

We have noticed that launching a fragrance has been in the ‘news’ lately.  Is it just me, or is everyone launching or in the process of launching a fragrance.  Tom Ford recently launched Bois Marocain.  Now Calvin Klein, Pucci, and Cartier at Sephora are offering limited edition perfumes, and Alberta Ferretti is launching her debut fragrance as well.  Fashion Rollcall has added designer fragrances to its Rollcall list this week.  The fragrance industry had stalled a bit in 2002, sales were slow.  With the increase of new fragrances, it’s likely  there has been an upswing in the sale of fragrances.  It makes sense that sales would increase during times of economic turbulence.  Everyone wants to wear that sensual scent, the one that captivates the senses and brings out a more sultry side.  I’ll have a few bottles of that, thank you.  It is also an affordable luxury, and even more, it makes us feel better.

Fashion Jewelry Treat

Jewelry designer Robert Lee Morris has been in the business for about 40 years. He’s worked with Donna Karan during the launch of her namesake line, and on her fall 2009 collection.  Rollcall selected Donna Karan’s fall 2009 collection as one of the best during fashion week partly for the fantastic accessories.  Mr. Morris has also worked with Calvin Klein during the eighties, and today he works closely with Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen on their jewelry line.  He gets much of his inspiration from his older works, and the fashion editorial community still looks to him for his unique pieces.  If you are an accessories fan, you will be glad you viewed these pieces.  Enjoy the feast, minus the calories.
