Short Film: Chanel’s ‘Shopping Fever’

Karl Lagerfeld has given life to one of our most recurring fantasies, a day of unabashed shopping at Chanel.  The designer directed a short film called Shopping Fever, with Dree Hemingway, Baptiste Giabiconi and Abbey Lee.  A room filled with shopping bags with the Chanel logo is a dream for many women; and a shopping spree like that would have to stem from a fever as the title suggested.  Even so, leave it to Karl to know what women want.

Video: Karl Lagerfeld’s Staying-Power at Chanel

Image: Galaxy Glue

Every year the rumors surface about Karl Lagerfeld’s named successor at Chanel, only to be shot down almost immediately by the fashion house.  Why would they want to alter the right formula?  Each season the 70 year old designer manages to update the iconic label just enough that it is coveted by young Hollywood, yet remain grounded in its history that it still appeals to socialites and ladies who lunch.  That is a delicate balance, and Lagerfeld has found a blend of perfection.  The brand still carries the same notability it enjoyed during the years of Coco Chanel.  This video simply highlights the designers achievements.

Georgia May Jagger: The New Face of Chanel

Karl Lagerfeld shot the new Chanel ad campaign featuring model Georgia May Jagger.  Georgia appears to have Lagerfeld’s seal of approval because she walked Chanel’s Cruise 2011 runway show in St. Tropez last week.  The 18 year old has also been the face of Versace.  She is already building an impressive portfolio that would rival most veteran models in the industry.  What else would we expect from the pouty offspring of Mick Jagger and Jerry Hall?  Georgia is styled in several signature looks for the ad.  The tweed and black-and-white looks are very Chanel, but the short shorts and sheer top are a departure from the label.  Maybe the house wants to appeal to a younger demographic.  If that’s the case, then Georgia May Jagger is the right choice.

Watch: Karl Lagerfeld’s ‘Remember Now’ Trailer

Karl Lagerfeld’s short film, Remember Now, debuts on Tuesday, May 11th.  The film plays host to a ton of Chanel looks, and that’s only fitting because the film will be a part of the resort festivities in St. Tropez tomorrow.  It’s a short clip, but you can still feel the energy and excitement of what’s in store in the full feature.

Martha Stewart’s Model Past at Chanel

Many of us knew that Martha Stewart was once a model, but we did not know that she modeled for the house of Chanel.  Andre Leon Talley of Vogue was a guest on The Martha Stewart Show this morning, and he revealed this tidbit of information.  He learned about it from Karl Lagerfeld.  She tried to downplay the news by saying it was only for a summer.  Who knew back then that Martha the model would one day become a succesful business woman like Coco Chanel?

Fashion Makes It Chic to Be A Tech Geek

Chanel iPhone App

Donna Karan iPhone App

When did it become so chic to be a tech geek?  Technology has gotten the fashion industry into the application arena, and we are addicted.  I can attest to this from personal experience; I’ve become obsessed with the latest applications for my Blackberry.  Admittedly, I’ve even suffered a bit from smartphone envy because of the hundreds of applications available for the iPhone.  A number of fashion designers have even entered the arena with their own applications for the iPhone, Chanel and Donna Karan to name a couple.  There are applications to alert you about sales, view runway shows and other types of fashion events.  Whenever I learn of a new application, my knee jerk reaction is to download it onto my phone and laptop.  My story did not start out this way, and I’m sure many fashion editors, buyers, bloggers and fashion lovers did not either.  Before I was a little apprehensive of computer technology, sure I had the computer, but I often used it for college and graduate school papers.  Let’s not forget e-mail.  It was a slow progression at first, but blogging has flung open the doors to technology.  Now I’m glued to my Blackberry.  Yeah, I’m sure they’re coming out with an app. for that.  Until then, I’ll be busy searching for new application downloads.  Who knew technology could be so stylish and fun?

Red Carpet:

1. Rachel McAdams looked so lovely and ethereal in her Elie Saab gown last night.  It was made from a beautiful floral print that made us nostalgic for spring; it reminded me of a watercolor painting.   Rachel got high marks for the fit, fabric, its charm and her ability to wear it with incredible ease.

2. Carey Mulligan’s Prada dress was the perfect choice for the budding starlet.  It was young and avant garde while maintaining a sweetness.  The beading and embellishments could have gone tragically wrong, but she pulled it off beautifully.

3. Penelope Cruz got it right with this Donna Karan gown.  The rich color was perfect for her hair color and complexion.  I loved the asymmetrical pleating at the top.  Cruz has become one to watch on the red carpet, and last night was no exception.

4. Cameron Diaz rightly wore Oscar de la Renta to the Oscars and she glowed.  With Cameron, it was the whole package, the dress, hair and that winning smile.

5. Sarah Jessica Parker can hardly do any wrong on the red carpet.  She looked stunning in Chanel Couture last night.  The gown reminded me of Audrey Hepburn look in “My Fair Lady,” that alone would have landed her on this list.  She embodies a certain grace that complements whatever she wears.

6. Okay, there are actually six picks on my best dressed list.  Queen Latifah makes the list because she was gorgeous in Badgley Mischka, and I could not let that go unacknowledged.  The fit of the gown was perfect, I loved the one shoulder and that the embellishment came across her body at just the right angle.  She looked beautiful and her posture says that she felt beeautiful as well.  That is the job of the right dress on the right star at the Oscars.

Sarah Jessica Parker Loves Her Chanel Tights

sjptights

Tights are definitely on trend this season, and no one loves them more than Sarah Jessica Parker.  The actress wore a pair of Chanel striped tights from the spring 2010 collection on The Today Show last week while doing press for Did You Hear About the Morgans.  The edgy tights balanced her girly crocheted Chanel look; a cross between bondage and sweet.  In October of 2008 Ms. Parker selected a pair of two-toned Chanel tights with a one-shoulder dress and cardigan for the Chanel Mobile Art event.  These tights looked more like a combination of biker shorts and stockings, and placed an exclamation point on a well-proportioned outfit.  Both looks were fun, daring and unconventional.  You should expect to see these pattern and textured tights everywhere this season and the next.
