Leighton Meester in Marchesa Jumpsuit

Leighton Meester wore a very sexy jumpsuit to a Harry Winston event in New York City last night.  The jumpsuit was from Marchesa’s Spring 2011 collection.  It is a black peek-a-boo sheer lace piece with a plunging V-neckline.  This was the exact opposite of the modest look worn by the Gossip Girl to an event the evening before.  Her makeup was dramatic this evening, including bold red lips.  Leighton accessorized her look with a pair of black peep-toe shoes that imitated the neckline of her garment, a silver evening bag and of course, Harry Winston diamonds.

Rihanna wa gorgeous in Marchesa at the MTV Europe Music Awards yesterday.  This gown was a show-stopper.  The one-shoulder blush pink ruched confection was a fantasy brought to life.  It was a formidable dress with gorgeous tulle and exquisite detail throughout.  The train alone was regal and dramatic.  Her gown was formal for the event, so she was obviously making a statement; message received Rihanna, you ran the red carpet last night.

Christina Ricci Was Graceful in Marchesa

Christina Ricci was graceful in Marchesa at the 2010 Library Lions Benefit in New York City.  Her ensemble is from the Fall 2010 collection.  The skirt is a sweet confection of ruffles and tulle, reminiscent of a tutu; it gives Ms. Ricci an opportunity to live out our fantasy of beng a ballerina.  The tuxedo jacket is cut beautifully to accommodate the fullness of the ruffles from the skirt.  She paired it with black tights and a black satin clutch.  Her look was feminine and tailored, the perfect combination.  Ricci opted for a bright red pout with the neutral colored outfit and wore her hair up with side-swept bangs.

Kerry Washington was stunning in Marchesa at the opening of the Metropolitan Opera last night.  It was a mostly white and lavender gown covered in a gorgeous orchid print on the lower half.  The dress was beautifully draped in the upper-bodice and the skirt fell into a lovely floral print.  Washington was easily the best-dressed; she was the belle of the opera.

The 2010 Emmys celebrated television at its finest last night in Los Angeles.  Stars from the small screen were acknowledged for their on-screen performances.  Here at Fashion Rollcall, we’ve analyzed and recognized them for their red carpet presentation.  Then we selected the top five best dressed ladies from this event.  At first blush, the line-up of these ladies appeared perfectly clear; that was until we started scrutinizng each look, from the draping, ruching, beading down to the dramatic trains.  Hair and make-up may have been the deciding factor in a few cases, yes, we did split hairs.

Nina Dobrev was the best dressed, the nude color fabric had an iridescent shine that was a hit on impact.  She wore a Zuhair Murad one-shoulder dress with an up-to-there slit.  The bodice boasted peak-a-boo inserts.  This champagne colored gown looked exquisite against her perfectly tanned skin, and her hair and make-up were also flawless.

Tied for second were Lea Michele in Oscar de la Renta and Clair Danes in Armani Prive.  They both looked stunning, and brought glamour to the Emmys.  If this were Old Hollywood Lea would have been Rita Hayworth and Claire, the ultimate blond-bombshell, Marilyn Monroe.  The de la Renta gown was sophisticated without being too mature for the young actress.  It had a fabulous fit, especially around the bust and the tiny waist.  Then we have the Armani Prive which pretty much announced it was haute couture on arrival.  This strapless stunner sparkled with beading so luminous that only actress’ glowing skin and golden blond locks could rival it.

Kim Kardasian gave us all something to talk about in her grecian inspired Marchesa gown last night.  The dress had a gorgeous bejeweled neckline that was paired with a bracelet with a similar pattern.  It’s all in the details ladies.  This white number was a beautiful fit on the reality star; it was fitted up top, and skimmed her curves below.

It is quite a coup to dress any of the lovely ladies of Mad Men, and Donna Karan won over Elisabeth Moss with a beautifully draped chiffon gown for the Emmys.  This was one of Moss’ most glamorous turn on the red carpet.  The one-shoulder dress had intricate work done on the shoulder, and had a dramatic train on the opposite side for balance and symmetry.  It had a beautiful fitted bodice, but the most telling thing about this look was the look of confidence on the actress’ face, she obviously feels as good as she looks.

Marchesa Debuts New Cosmetic Line

Image via In Style

We know and love Marchesa for their red carpet fantasty gowns, and now they’re adding makeup to the line-up.  Designers Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig have a new cosmetic collection with beauty brand, Le Metier de Beaute.   The duo apparently wanted to re-create their design magic in the beauty arena.  We’re already envisioning soft delicate color palettes with the ability to transform us into swans.  Bergdorf  Goodman and Neiman Marcus will start selling the compacts, lip glosses and highlighting pens in September.  They are probably wearing the fall collection in the ad campaign, it’s classic and pretty.

Celebrity Weddings: Emily Blunt, Carrie Underwood and Lala Vazquez

Lala Vazquez and Carmelo Anthony

‘Tis the season for weddings and romance.  Several celebrity couples said their “I do’s” last weekend.  Among them were Lala Vazquez and Carmelo Anthony who took their vows in New York City.  Carrie Underwood and Mike Fisher were wedded at the Ritz-Carlton in Greensboro, GA, while Emily Blunt and John Krasinski proved they were the marrying kind in Lake Como, Italy.

These weddings would have been incomplete without the glamour of designer gowns.  Lala Vazquez wore a strapless  princess gown by Vera Wang. Monique Lhuillier designed a custom-made dress for Carrie Underwood in Chantilly lace, and actress Emily Blunt selected a chiffon Marchesa gown with a sweetheart neckline.

We often hear about the June bride, but Carrie, Emily and Lala have given us the July celebrity-bride.  Each wedding had a star studded guest list.  Lala and Carmelo’s guests included Serena Williams and LeBron James.  Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul attended Carrie and Mike’s wedding, and George Clooney and girlfriend Elisabetta Canalis were in attendance at Emily and John’s.  A coveted guest list is always impressive, but at the end of the day, the most important thing is they celebrated their love with family and friends.

Red Carpet at 2010 Golden Globes:

Kate Hudson gets our best dressed vote because of the shape and structure of her gown.  The actress was one of four clients styled by Rachel Zoe at the Globes, and she had us talking about the gown, not her personal life.  Her gown stood out because it was a visual delight, the eyes wanted to feast on each origami fold.

Drew Barrymore’s Versace Atelier gown was beautifully draped and beaded.  The nude color was also on trend.  Many questioned the embellishments attached to the shoulder and hip, but I say that Drew has the personality to pull it off.  All I can see here is glitz and glamour, and that’s just what the Golden Globes ordered.

Emily Blunt’s Dolce & Gabanna gown was elegant and sweet on the red carpet.  The bustier top, fitted skirt and a slight mermaid bottom provided the actress with a beautiful silhouette.  The gown followed both the ruffled and color trend of the evening.  She was accompanined by her fiance John Krasinski in Prada.

January Jones was loe’ly in Lanvin.  The back cut-out and perfectly sculpted ruffles make this gown a stand-out instead of relegating it as ‘just another black dress’.  It was deceptively simple with intricate detailing.

Chloe Sevigny made the list because she selected this Valentino gown that many women would not have attempted on the red carpet.  It’s a beautiful gown that challenges the narrow standards of beauty.  The gown needed a woman who had a strong sense of self, and it found that in Chloe.
