Rachel Roy at Macy’s

We have another high-end designer collaborating with a mass retailer.  Designer Rachel Roy has a new line at Macy’s, and it is a more budget friendly collection to go along with her high-end collection, Rachel Roy.  She launched her successful avant-garde collection in 2005.  Her new line is a younger look for college students who want to be cool, but polished.  Simply put, it’s youthful and sweet.  The collaboration also includes accessories and footwear.  Here is a preview of a few looks available online now.  There is always a silver lining, it’s almost time to go back to school, but you can return in style.

Retail Strategy for Profitability

We all know that the retail market has been hit hard by the economic slow-down.  Jay Margolis, retail analysis has one major suggestion to retailers in order to stay profitable.  It’s about speed to market, and getting the consumer back into the store.  He believes it’s about the traffic, and then the conversion of that traffic.  Simply put, it’s about selling out of your inventory.  I know you’re thinking, duh!  Hold on a moment.  Mr. Margolis believes that retailers have already exhausted price cutting, lowering of overhead, etc.  It’s time to take a look at Forever 21, Zara and H&M because this will be the model from now.  Retailers must keep on trend with color, silhouette or shape just as those three retailers have been doing.  They’ve excelled and profited from this strategy, and the inventory moves in and out of the stores.  It’s all about newness.  He believes other brands will have to catch up.

Jimmy Choo for H&M

Good news ladies, Jimmy Choo and H&M are teaming up to bring you clothing and accessories.  Being Jimmy Choo, of course the collection will be centered on the shoes.  The men also have something to cheer about; they too will have shoes, bags and accessories.  Glamour is coming to the masses.  I dared not dream of this; maybe fairy tales can come true.  For now, you will have your opportunity to don Jimmy Choo from H&M starting November 14th.  It’s good to see high end designers continue to team up with mass retailers, and hopefully we will see many more.  These collaborations are good news for all, especially the economy.
