Victoria Beckham Is British Fashion Awards’ Nominee

Victoria Beckham has been nominated for Designer Brand of the Year by the British Fashion Awards.  This is an impressive achievement for the relatively new designer.  She began her designing career with dvb, her denim collection.  Then she worked her way to a high-end dress line called Victoria Beckham Collection.  Her dresses are feminine without the frills.   The shapes are the most compelling things about her dress collection.  They are very architectural, yet soft and approachable.  Beckham’s signature style is all over this line; it’s as if she designs each piece for herself.  Just take note of the images of her Russian Vogue editorial early last year.

The former Spice Girl is in excellent company for this nomination; Burberry, Mulberry and Pringle of Scotland are also in contention.  The winners will be announced on December 7th.  It appears to me that in this esteemed company, the nomination has already made Beckham a winner.

Designers Revive London Fashion Week

Matthew Williamson Spring 2010

Matthew Williamson Spring 2010

London Fashion Week is enjoying a major resurgence.  British designers are returning to London to show their collections again; they are breaking the pattern of showing in New York, Milan or Paris.  The city’s fashion week revival is long overdue because of its wealth of emerging and innovative talent.  Burberry Prorsum, Matthew Williamson, Pringle of Scotland, Jonathan Saunders and Antonio Berardi all returned for spring 2010, and will make an encore appearance for fall 2010.  Fashion Week is from February 19 – 24, 2010 and the excitement can hardly be contained.  “The British Fashion Council is delighted that all five have confirmed they will show in London this February and we look forward to working with them to attract leading media and buyers to London Fashion Week.”  The excitement is not limited to the UK, the fashion industry as a whole rejoices.
