Felicity Jones in Proenza Schouler at Gotham Independent Film Awards

Felicity Jones accepted her Gotham Independent Film Award in a modern seafom Proenza Schouler dress. The actress selected a sleeveless look with clean lines. It was self-belted with a frontal button down slit and was knee-length. She accessorized with a coral clutch and T-Strap platform heels in a blush hue. Her hair was styled with soft bangs and the makeup was pretty in a peachy-pink palette.

Kirsten Dunst wore Proenza Schouler to the GLAAD Media Awards.  It was a purple lace top and tweed skirt from the Spring 2011 collection.  Her ensemble had pretty black patterns and great texture.  This look was quite modern, especially with the black band in the bodice and the waistband.  She accessorized with a black pair of ultra feminine sandals that fully complemented her outfit.

Kate Bosworth is Chic in Proenza Schouler

Images via Fab Sugar

Kate Bosworth knows how to do effortless chic to perfection.  The actress wore a graphic styled orange and coral Proenza Schouler dress to the 27th Annual Night of Stars last night.  This dress is from the Spring 2011 collection, hence the vivid hues.  It had a black neckline and textured pattern throughout and she accessorized with black platform pumps and evening bag.  The colors are bold, yet the design is simple, and the fit is relaxed.  Ms. Bosworth could definitely teach a class on how ‘less is more.’  Her colors are also accentuated by the actual red carpet and background.  This is one of my favorite looks of the week; she’s captured the ‘I just threw this together’ look, but I still look like a million.

Haute Rentals From the Runway

So you have that special event to attend, but choose to splurge on rent instead of a new designer dress.  What are your options?  Well, you could go to Rent the Runway, a new online site that rents high-end dresses at a fraction of the cost of retail.  Do I have your attention now?

Their selection range from Diane Von Furstenberg, Proenza Schouler, Badgley Mischka, Giambattista Valli, to Herve Leger, and the rentals will cost between $50 to $200.  They are shipped to your home, and returned in a pre-paid envelope.  The dress is essentially yours for four nights, but don’t take that too literally because it could cost you.  Handle the merchandise with care because if you destroy it, congratulations, you’ve bought it.

It sounds simple enough, if you don’t count the waitlist of 20,000 women who’ve already signed up for the service.  The concept is definitely recession friendly; Rent the Runway has the ability to capture the market of women who merely want to borrow instead of own.

Top Five High-end Designers for Mass Market

Thakoon for Target

The economy has affected us all, and it has even influenced our shopping habits.  We’ve all heard the talk of a ‘V’ shaped economic recovery, suggesting that once we’ve hit bottom, we’ll trend upward without looking back.  While I’m usually an optimist, I’m more inclined to believe that we are in a ‘W’ shaped recovery where we will hit bottom twice before trending upward to a full recovery.  With this in mind, we must be mindful of our budgets, but still remain fabulous and stylish.  Mixing our wardrobe with higher and lower-end pieces has never been more essential for the woman who loves fashion.  Here is a list of the top five collaborations of high-end designers and mass market retailers.  They are:

  • 1. Karl Lagerfeld- H&M
  • 2. Jimmy Choo- H&M
  • 3. Proenza Schouler- Target
  • 4. Matthew Williamson- H&M
  • 5. Thakoon – Target
