Rollcall: Paris Fashion Week

The shows in Paris were as spectacular as one would expect.  They delivered the theatrics, and elicited the uncontrollable gasps of delight for which they are known.

The French must be admired for their optimism.  What recession?  It appeared to have been the furthest thing from the designers’ minds as they created these collections.  There was little evidence of the economic concerns being faced.

Fashion usually reflects the times, but in this instance, the collections were rich, bold and full of life.  No timidity here.  There were no language barrier either, each collection spoke volumes.

Vivid colors were well represented this season.  Black and white made their appearance at several shows, and no one did it better than Chanel.

Rollcall had no shortage of contenders for its list.  Choosing only three fashion houses was a challenge, but it had to be done.

The selected shows registered instantaneously, it’s like love at first sight.  You are taken by surprise, but you know it when you see it.  Giambattista Valli, Hermes and Elie Saab were definite stand-outs, but three other fashion houses stood in the way.

Please view the shows at New York Magazine.  The three fashion houses selected by Rollcall for Paris Fashion Week Fall 2009 are:

  • A. Christian Dior
  • B. Christian Lacroix
  • C. Lanvin
