Red Carpet Looks:

Couture came to the Grammy’s this year, and its arrival signaled a look towards the future.  We were granted a preview of the future of fashion in the new decade, and all is well.

Lady Gaga set the bar for the evening.  Her Armani Prive gown was designed and built to stimulate our visual senses.  Gaga was orbited by perfectly manicured glittery strips that could double as a shield to keep away intruders.  So that’s what it looks like to have the world revolve around you.  Let’s not forget the tights and shoes which brought the singer’s look to greater heights.

Rhianna could have been the heroine in any sci fi film with this Elie Saab Couture gown.  Her hair and make up were flawless, and perfectly completed the look.  The structured shoulders gave this gown its futuristic vibe, and all traces of the last decade evaporated.

Ciara made a bold choice with this selection.  If Rhianna was the heroine, Ciara was the gorgeous villainess in Givenchy Couture.  It is sheer lace and textured with just enough embellishments.  The look says welcome to the future, and the future is badass.

Red Carpet at 2010 Golden Globes:

Kate Hudson gets our best dressed vote because of the shape and structure of her gown.  The actress was one of four clients styled by Rachel Zoe at the Globes, and she had us talking about the gown, not her personal life.  Her gown stood out because it was a visual delight, the eyes wanted to feast on each origami fold.

Drew Barrymore’s Versace Atelier gown was beautifully draped and beaded.  The nude color was also on trend.  Many questioned the embellishments attached to the shoulder and hip, but I say that Drew has the personality to pull it off.  All I can see here is glitz and glamour, and that’s just what the Golden Globes ordered.

Emily Blunt’s Dolce & Gabanna gown was elegant and sweet on the red carpet.  The bustier top, fitted skirt and a slight mermaid bottom provided the actress with a beautiful silhouette.  The gown followed both the ruffled and color trend of the evening.  She was accompanined by her fiance John Krasinski in Prada.

January Jones was loe’ly in Lanvin.  The back cut-out and perfectly sculpted ruffles make this gown a stand-out instead of relegating it as ‘just another black dress’.  It was deceptively simple with intricate detailing.

Chloe Sevigny made the list because she selected this Valentino gown that many women would not have attempted on the red carpet.  It’s a beautiful gown that challenges the narrow standards of beauty.  The gown needed a woman who had a strong sense of self, and it found that in Chloe.

Follow the Turquoise Trend in 2010

Zoe Saldana

Turquoise has been named the hottest color of 2010, and actress Zoe Saldana is already in on the trend.  Zoe’s belted mini dress with matching clutch and shoes is incredibly chic, and it’s a great way to wear turquoise in winter.  Pantone declared the color of the year, and many will be on board.  Expect department stores and specialty boutiques to present you with racks of options this spring and summer.  The color combination of turquoise, navy and white is elegant during that time of year as well.  Keep an eye on the runways this year because turquoise is likely to make an appearance during each city’s fashion week.  Have fun with this trend in your accessories too, a beautiful necklace or platform pumps are two ways to make a statement this season.
