Nicole Richie is launching a new clothing line that will showcase her bohemian chic style.  The line is called Winter Kate, and will debut in spring 2010 in Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdale’s and Saks Fifth Avenue to name a few.

Ms. Richie is adding to her growing fashion empire which already includes an accessories line, and a maternity collection for A Pea in the Pod.  Richie has made our Rollcall list this week, but her debut on our list came last summer when she launched her maternity collection.

Winter Kate is a 37-piece collection that will be a staple of tops, vests and bed jackets because that’s more aligned with Nicole Richie’s personal style.  Her line will also incude slips and maxi dresses, among other various dress styles.

“Fashion should be accessible,” Richie said, and her prices reflect that strategy.  Her items are priced from $35 for a camisole to $110 for a long dress.  The leather pieces can go for as much as $598.  The mother of two, Harlow and Sparrow, has been very busy, and she shows no sign of slowing down.

The Olsens Are Having It Made: Yes, Their Shades

the-row-sun-glasses2_previewOkay, I’m extremely partial to these sunglasses from Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s collaboration with Linda Farrow.  It is part of the dynamic duo’s successful clothing line, The Row.  They’re apparently branching off into accessories (other than their jewelry line), and have opted to start with eyewear.  Before you start rejoicing, these shades will set you back between $325 – $390.  The one question I have is, how well will these pricey sunglasses fair in this economy when the consumer’s discretionery spending is down?  Both the Olsens and Linda Farrow are betting that their targeted demographic will not tighten their purse strings.  We”ll see.  I guess the follow-up question would be, are bags and shoes far behind for The Row?

Nicole Richie’s Maternity Line

Nicole Richie has collaborated with A Pea in the Pod to design a new maternity fashion line.  She is the mother of 19 month old Harlow and has her second child on the way, and this gives her insight into what expectant mothers want to wear.   Nicole has managed to make motherhood appear chic, glamorous and effortless, and that is some feat.  It isn’t easy to balance a career and motherhood, but from all outward appearances, Ms. Richie has found her stride.  Click here for a preview of her collection; it will be in stores on Friday.  We have selected her maternity line, and the woman/entrepreneur herself for our Rollcall list this week.  Ms. Richie may have made an even bigger accomplishment, she’s lulled many of us into thinking we can have it all.  The only question now, is when?

Designing Celebrity Style

Fashion Rollcall selected three celebrity fashion designers to make its Rollcall list.  The three selected were:

Victoria Beckham launched her dress collection in 2008, and made her fall 2009 New York Fashion Week debut in February.  She introduced a 16-piece collection that goes up to a size 10.   The dress collection has been sold to Bergdorf Goodman.

You can easily see Beckham herself wearing any of these designs.  She has definitely bottled the Victoria Beckham style.  Prior to this collection she had her VB denim collection, but her venture into fashion designing started with a small line of jeans with Rock & Republic.

Gwen Stefani has been widely received for her L.a.m.b collection.  Celebrities often wore this line, along with Stefani herself.  She even created the Harajuku line, a less expensive line for her fans and the general public.  The line embodies Stefani’s style and essence.  That would explain its appeal. She began in 2004 with handbag and accessories and evolved into a clothing line, and it appears she is still going strong

Justin Timberlake co-founded the William Rast line along with Trace Alaya.  William Rast made its New York Fashion Week Spring 2009 debut last month.  It is a laid back collection with a bit of an edge; the line mainly consists of denim, leather and tee-shirts.  Timberlake is expected be on Oprah today to promote his line.

A common theme that these celebrity fashion designers have is that they design clothing for themselves.  They are capitalizing on their celebrity, not just in name, but in style.

Two of these celebrity fashion designers have moved on to the Showdown.  They are L.a.m.b by Gwen Stefani and William Rast with Justin Timberlake.

The winner is William Rast by Justin Timberlake.  His collection is in-tune with his demographic; they are the younger urban set who wants to look cool without trying too hard. [NYMag.com, WWD]

Two of these celebrity fashion designers will make it into our Showdown tomorrow, and only one will emerge the winner.   Can you guess which two will move on to the Showdown? [Fashionista, The Cut]
