Michelle Obama went the avant garde route with her dress selection for the 2011 State Dinner with China this evening.  She wore a red Alexander McQueen print gown in silk chiffon.  It was an excellent choice.  The color alone made it extremely wise because of its symbolic meaning in Chinese culture, ‘good luck’.  This was also a winner because of its style quotient.  It was sleeveless and showcased her fabulous arms and shoulders.  The print gave her dress texture and depth, similar to a painting.  In a word, it was positively regal.
