Christian Dior’s Spring 2011 Ad Campaign

Steven Meisel shot Christian Dior’s Spring 2011 ad campaign starring Karlie Kloss.  Vivid colors, beautiful prints and wonderful textures would accurately sum up these images.  Even the background fabric continues the color and texture of the theme.  There is a softness to her face that is contrasted with those bold red lips and the glamorous curls in her hair.  The tree branch adds an earthy element to the high-end pieces.

Gisele Bundchen’s Vogue Italia December 2010 Cover

Gisele Bundchen covers the December 2010 issue of Vogue Italia.  The cover shot captured her stunning cheekbones and shimmering eyes in a black-in-white image.  I loved the wet look of her hair, as if it was left to be air-dried; this along with her neutral lip color gave the photo a very natural look.  It’s a great head-shot of the model by fashion photographer Steven Meisel whose lighting was exceptional.  Inside Gisele’s editorial previewed Spring 2011 looks.

Prada’s Spring 2011 Ad Campaign

Prada has unveiled its new Spring 2011 ad campaign that was shot by fashion photographer Steven Meisel.  Great stripes and vibrant colors are at the core of this collection, and these shots have captured its essence.  There is a retro-vibe to the ads, it’s highlighted by the hair that’s closely styled to the head in waves and the ornately designed shades.  It’s all about the accessories in this campaign - bags, shoes and sunglasses; accessories can make or break an outfit.  We might be heading into the Holidays, but it’s never too early to think spring thoughts.

Louis Vuitton Goes for Natalia, Karen and Christy for its Fall 2010 Ad

Marc Jacobs scored big when he assembled models Christy Turlington, Karen Elson and Natalia Vodianova for Louis Vuitton’s Fall 2010 ad campaign.  The ladies look lovely as they groom themselves in a dressing room full of make-up mirrors with lights.  That lighting is usually a recipe for bad make-up application, but not here.  In addition to mirrors, there are plenty of Vuitton shoes and bags scattered throughout the room.  Let’s not forget that the models are perfectly dressed in the fall 2010 collection.  Steven Meisel captured the updated 1950′s vibe that Jacobs delivered in his collection.

Daphne Guinness Now Owns Isabella Blow’s Collection

Daphne Guinness is the proud owner of the late Isabella Blow’s collection.  The legendary fashion stylist had a wardrobe consisting of 50 Philip Treacy hats, a few John Galliano dresses and several pieces by her dear friend Alexander McQueen.  In total, Daphne Guinness has acquired a 90 piece collection that is worthy of display in a museum.  She intercepted a planned Christie’s auction scheduled for September to sell off  Blow’s wardrobe and photographs.  Photographs by Steven Meisel, Mario Testino and Karl Lagerfeld are also among her new acquisitions.  “It’s Issy – it’s her D.N.A., it should not be scattered to the four winds.  Like any artist, it should not be dispersed, but remain as a monument with people having access to it,” says Guinness.

The Models’ Photographer

Yesterday we talked about the May issue of Vogue, The Models Issue.  The cover was shot by famed photographer Steven Meisel.  Vogue.com has a feature story on the fashion photographer that is really worth reading.  It chronicles his beginnings in the industry, and touches on the complexity of the man.  His subjects have nothing, but praise for his craft and his ability to bring out the best in them.  While you are there, check out the video of the models backstage as they prepare for the shoot with Meisel, click onto the link. You will hear the models talk a bit about Meisel, Vogue, and modeling.
