The Supermodel Era
Was the supermodel a genetically engineered wonder or a manufactured creation right off the assembly line? It does not matter where you fall on this issue, the consensus is that she was and is a stunning creature.
We knew all the supermodels by their first names and they were indeed super. The models that arrived after them are just as beautiful, but the public does not know them as well. Sure they are recognizable, but are almost anonymous at the same time. It is the personality factor.
The key to the supermodel’s fame was her personality. Everyone thought they knew her. Magazines were purchased on that premise. The supermodel appeared worldlier, but who wouldn’t when the title before your name begins with the word ‘super’? That gave her authority to be larger than life.
Try putting the word ‘super’ before your title and see how that makes you feel for a moment. You may need the $10,000 a day paycheck to really get into character.
Some say that the supermodel era is over. I say that nothing is ever over in fashion. They will be back just like the Eighties, bell-bottoms and tie-dye, only up-dated. The possibility for resurgence exists as the world emerges from the economic downturn. The models will just have to wait it out.
